Like most of the nation, Hoosiers see the alarming rise of obesity in their communities as a leading concern. Nationally, Indiana has the 15th highest adult obesity rate in the nation (The State of Obesity: Better Policies for a Healthier America, 2016). Obesity prevention was a critical community health need identified in all 18 Indiana University Health communities across the state. IU Health is committed to launching innovative efforts aimed at preventing and reversing obesity in our communities to help community members get active, get healthy and get strong.
IU Health is working to create initiatives and support efforts to:
- Improve access to healthy foods
- Create healthier school environments
- Increase access to safe places for community members to be physically active
