Garden on the Go®

History of Garden on the Go®

Garden on the Go® was launched in May 2011 as part of Indiana University Health's comprehensive obesity prevention strategy; the mobile produce program improved access to fresh, affordable fruits and vegetables in neighborhoods in Marion County and beyond with limited access to healthy food. Garden on the Go® was set up in a farmers' market style and operated Monday through Friday, year-round making weekly stops at a variety of highly visible community partner locations. At the program's end, Garden on the Go® had provided 393 tons of fresh fruits and vegetables to over 97,000 customers.

Presenting Healthy Food Access Grant Initiative

Learn More

Inspired by the Garden on the Go® program, IU Health Community Outreach and Engagement is launching a new Healthy Food Access Grant Initiative specifically aimed at addressing the food deserts and corresponding health-related issues in Indianapolis. IU Health will transition from supporting the mobile produce program and expand its reach into the local food access arena by supporting projects/initiatives that have the potential of reaching a larger number of Indianapolis residents.
