Patient Advocacy

We are committed to giving high quality, compassionate care to our patients. Our goal is to meet and exceed the expectations of our patients and their families. Patient advocates are here to help you voice your concerns, compliments or suggestions. At your request, your patient advocate can:

  • Serve as a link to communicate with physicians or staff.
  • Help you access information.
  • Look into your concerns and questions.
  • Allow your comments to help make Indiana University Health the best it can be.

Your patient advocate always respects your right to privacy and will maintain your confidentiality.

Please contact us if:

  • Our colleagues provided great service, and you want to be sure they know it.
  • You have a suggestion about how we can better serve you or other patients.
  • Something happened at your hospital that did not meet your expectations.
  • You have concerns or questions regarding patient rights or responsibilities.

You may also call the TrustLine at 888.878.7836. The Trustline is IU Health's confidential hotline. IU Health patients may use it to report, anonymously if they choose, knowledge or suspicion of unethical or illegal actions. It is available 24 hours per day and seven days per week.

When you call the Trustline, an operator (employed by a security company entirely independent of IU Health) will take your information, issue you a code number, and schedule a time for you to call back (normally in about two weeks). In the meantime, the operator will record the call and electronically send the report to Corporate Compliance & HIPAA department personnel. We will then investigate the situation, providing summaries of our findings and conclusions to the TrustLine operator. When you call the TrustLine at your scheduled time, the operator will provide you with our most recent update regarding the investigation.

Corporate Compliance and HIPAA personnel investigate TrustLine reports confidentially and attempt to maintain callers' anonymity. However, because of the nature of compliance investigations, we cannot guarantee that a caller's identity will never become known. If a caller's identity becomes known, IU Health's policy protects the caller from retaliation. Callers who believe that someone is retaliating against them for reporting legitimate compliance concerns should contact Corporate Compliance & HIPAA department personnel.
