Al Gatmaitan, FACHE

Chief Executive Officer

Al Gatmaitan joined Indiana University Health Arnett in May 2009 as Chief Executive Officer. He has a long track record of success as a health care executive. He began his career 26 years ago at Logansport Hospital, served as CEO for Tipton Hospital for 11 years and joined Clarian West Medical Center in 2003 as its first employee.

Mr. Gatmaitan received his undergraduate degree from University of Dayton and his Masters in Health Administration at Indiana University. He is a past Rotary president and current vice chair of the Greater Lafayette United Way campaign.

Mr. Gatmaitan and his wife Nancy have three children.

Brian Shockney

Chief Operating Officer

Brian Shockney joined IU Health Arnett in May 2010 as Chief Operating Officer. Prior to joining IU Health Arnett, Brian served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Memorial Hospital in Logansport, Indiana.

Mr. Shockney received a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree of Health Administration from Indiana University and is a strong advocate for educational achievement as a means to economic and social improvement in communities.

Mr. Shockney and his wife Angie have three children.

James Bien, MD

Chief Quality & Safety Officer

Dr. James Bien joined Arnett Clinic, now Indiana University Health Arnett, in 1999 as a pediatrician. He served as Chief Medical Officer before accepting the role of Vice President of Quality and Patient Safety in 2011. Dr. Bien earned his bachelor of science in biomedical engineering from Marquette University, his medical degree from Northwestern University, and trained in pediatrics at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center with an additional year as chief resident in pediatrics.

In his current position, Dr. Bien works to ensure a culture of safety and supports clinical improvement work throughout IU Health Arnett. He oversees the Quality Department, Risk and Case Management, and the Medical Staff Office. He also serves as the organization’s sponsor for lean engineering transformation.

Dr. Bien and his wife, Cadi, live in West Lafayette with their three children.

Donald E. Clayton, MD, FAAAI

Chief Medical Director

Dr. Clayton joined IU Health Arnett as an allergist in 1980 following his postgraduate training in internal medicine and allergy and immunology at the University of Wisconsin. He was involved in leadership as a medical director from 1990-2001 and has served on the IU Health Arnett Board of Directors.

Dr. Clayton currently serves as Chief Medical Director of IU Health Arnett, practices allergy and immunology at IU Health Arnett and serves on the Medical Executive Committee of IU Health Arnett Hospital.

Dr. Clayton and his wife, Mindy, enjoyed raising three children in Lafayette and now enjoy being part of the lives of their five grandchildren.

Joshua Fleming, RN, BSN, MHA

Chief Nursing Executive, Vice President of Patient Care Services

Joshua Fleming has more than nine years of nursing and leadership experience within the IU Health system. Most recently, he served as the administrative director of nursing for IU Health Arnett and prior to that, he spent a year as Director of Patient Safety for the IU Health system. In his current position, Joshua leads all nursing in both the inpatient setting and medical offices. He also oversees pharmacy operations. Mr. Fleming has a passion for process improvement in the areas of quality and safety.

Mr. Fleming earned a bachelor’s of science in nursing from Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina and a master’s in Healthcare Administration from IUPUI.

Mr. Fleming and his wife, who is a nurse at IU Health, have three daughters. He enjoys spending his free time with them and coaching them in their various sports.

Koreen Kyhnell

V.P. Human Resources

Koreen Kyhnell joined IU Health Arnett in June 1997 as Director of Human Resources and was promoted to vice president in 2003. Beginning in 2009 she assumed the role of Chief Support Services Officer. Previous to joining IU Health Arnett, she had 10 years of experience in human resource management in manufacturing, distribution and retail. Koreen holds a Bachelor of Science in Retail Management from Purdue University

Koreen and her husband, Karl, have two boys. Her personal interests include her son's sports activities, Purdue University football and basketball, the Chicago Cubs and reading.

Lori Luther

Chief Practice Officer

Lori Luther joined IU Health Arnett in February 2009 as Chief Practice Officer. In her role, Lori works closely with physician leadership and administrative directors to lead outpatient physician practices and service line development. Lori has a proven background skilled at establishing operational excellence within culturally diverse environments and has been a sought-after consultant, both nationally and internationally. Lori graduated summa cum laude from Ball State University and is a certified public accountant.

Lori has two grown sons and likes to spend her free time teaching and mentoring kids, traveling and running.
