The best method of ensuring your success in your weight loss program is to take advantage of the ongoing support services we offer you, whether you just want to talk or prefer a more structured, educational approach. Our support groups, cooking classes and fitness programs are provided with one goal in mind: helping you reach your weight loss goal.
We realize losing weight is very difficult. That's why we've structured our program to be there for you - to assist you in this process by using the latest techniques in counseling, support and care so you can achieve success. We've designed our program to provide both open chat times and structured, topic-focused support group sessions, as well as cooking classes and individually-tailored fitness programs. These options give patients the flexibility to attend the type of session in which they feel most comfortable. We want you to feel free to ask questions and learn from our skilled staff and from other patients.
Almost all of our support programs are free to all our patients. We don't restrict the number of groups you may attend or the number of years you wish to participate. You will be our patient and a part of our family forever. Please contact us at 765.448.8163 or visit our blog for the most updated support group schedule and topics.
Note: If there is a weather emergency, please check local television and radio for support group cancellations.
Call 765.448.8143 for more information on any of the programs listed. Everyone, from any program, including friends and family, is always welcome!

Optional Fitness Programs
Programs will consist of supervised exercise programming and pertinent risk factor modification education. You are encouraged to attend all group education sessions. These education sessions are designed to meet the education requirements set by The American Association of Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). The sessions will last approximately 30 minutes. We will also have you meet with the registered dietitian for bariatrics.
Your optional exercise program is written individually for you based on your physician’s recommendations and your current functional capacity. The exercises take place at the IU Health Arnett Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehabilitation workout center and utilize various pieces of exercise equipment including stationary bikes, Nu-Steps®, treadmills and basic resistance training equipment. You will begin slowly and as your heart and body become stronger, your activity will increase.
If you have a question about our optional fitness program, please call 765.448.8143. Make sure to also check the IU Health Bariatric & Medical Weight Loss blog frequently for even more fitness tips on how you can stay active and healthy during all phases of your weight loss journey.
If you choose to participate in another exercise program, please consult with your physician.
You and your family are encouraged to attend our cooking classes, conducted by our registered dietitian, held on a quarterly basis at IU Health Arnett Medical Offices located at 2600 Greenbush Street, Lafayette. These classes are designed to:
- Provide you with the information you need to learn how to prepare delicious meals for the entire family while achieving your weight loss goals.
- Learn to cook one meal, rather than two. We understand that families can fall into the trap of cooking two different meals - one for the bariatric patient and one for the rest of the family. We'll help you see how the same menu can be prepared, and quantities can be adjusted, to meet everyone's needs. And most importantly, they can taste great.
- Learn to experiment with using different spices and cooking in new and healthy ways that will benefit your family as much as you.
If you would like more information about cooking classes, including dates and times, please contact us at 765.448.8163.
