IU Health Arnett is the regional provider of certified nurse midwives who offer the latest in holistic childbirth. Whether it’s your first baby or your seventh, we provide everything you need to have a comfortable, successful delivery.

Certified Nurse Midwives are registered nurses who have successfully completed an accredited graduate education program and passed a national certification exam. Midwives teach, educate and empower women to play a large part in their own healthcare.

Midwives respect the diversity of women’s needs and the variety of personal and cultural meanings that women and their families bring to pregnancy. All midwives specialize in understanding the normal aspects of the childbearing cycle and are trained to recognize deviations from the normal. They welcome questions and strive to educate you of your options during childbirth. During labor, midwives monitor the health of both you and your baby, help you give birth and offer emotional support. By delivering your baby with a midwife at IU Health Arnett Hospital you have the reassurance that if something were to go wrong, an OB/GYN physician and dedicated hospital staff are only steps away.

Midwives also provide routine primary and gynecologic care for women of all ages, including health education and preventive care, preconception care and family planning. They are advocates for patient choice, and will spend a large part of your appointment educating you of your options. They believe it is important to provide time for questions, teaching and time to listen to the concerns and needs of the women they care for.
