Mom/Baby Connection

The Mom/Baby Connection is a group that comes together to support each other and share tips they have learned. This is a great way to meet other parents, receive breastfeeding support and even have your baby’s weight checked. Free for all new parents who deliver at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

Breastfeeding Class

A nurse will share tips to help prepare you for breastfeeding your newborn. This one-session class for the mother and support person is recommended during the sixth to eighth month of pregnancy but may be taken at any time.

Topics include:

  • Advantages of breastfeeding
  • Breast milk production
  • Techniques to get off to a good start
  • Returning to work and pumping
  • Storage of breast milk
  • Prevention and treatment of common problems

Infant Safety and CPR

Caring for a new baby can be overwhelming. Infant Safety and CPR class is designed to educate new parents and family members on the basics of newborn care as well as safety and preventative measures. While most families attend prior to the birth of their new baby, families attending after delivery are welcome to bring the baby to class.
Topics include:

  • Basic Newborn Care, including soothing techniques
  • Infant CPR
  • Car Seat Safety & Installation
  • Safe Sleep
  • Babyproofing your home

Preparation for Childbirth

This four-week series prepares you to be more involved in the birth process. It draws concepts from various childbirth methods in covering:

  • Changes of late pregnancy and ways to decrease discomforts of the last few weeks
  • What to expect as labor begins
  • How labor and birth progresses and tips of each stage
  • Additional pain control options available
  • Information on Cesarean birth Recovery following childbirth
  • Newborn care
  • Tour of Birthing Center

Classes begin on the first Monday or Wednesday evening of month, unless there is a holiday or otherwise noted. Plan to complete this series two to three weeks prior to your due date. Make sure you have entered your name, street and/or email address so you will receive a letter with directions approximately one week prior to the class.
