Intern Call

Family Medicine Call (9 months of the year):

  • Average of every 5 – 6 days
  • Weekday call: 8 am – 10 pm
  • Weekend call: 8 am – midnight (ends at 10 pm if you work the next day)
  • NO overnight call!
  • Able to trade calls to accommodate personal schedules
    Duties Include:
  • Pediatric admissions
  • OB phone triage, L&D triage, labor management and deliveries, admissions
  • Coverage of fellow intern’s clinic patients

Wards Medicine Call (2 months of the year):

  • Average of every 5 days
  • Short call: 7 am – 3 pm
  • Long call: 3 pm – 9 pm (round on patients starting at 7 am)
  • NO overnight call!
    Duties Include:
  • Respond to all codes
  • Run codes with upper-level FM resident
  • Cross-cover other wards teams’ patients
  • Admit all wards patients with upper-level FM resident

ICU Call (1 month of the year):

  • Average of 4 – 5 days
  • Short call: 7 am – 7 pm
  • Long call: 7 pm – 11 am
  • Staff with ICU attending
    Duties Include:
  • Respond to all codes
  • Run codes with Wards team on call
  • Admit all new ICU patients
  • Cross-Cover the ICU patients

Second Year Call

Family Medicine Call (10 months of the year):

  • Average of every 13 days
  • 8 am – noon (28 hours)
  • Home call! (may go home if no need to be in the hospital)
  • Able to trade calls to accommodate personal schedules
    Duties Include:
  • Admissions for all 2nd and 3rd year patients as well as director patients
  • Staff interns on all patients and procedures, and answer questions
  • Staff with Family Medicine Director on call
  • Take intern’s call duties when they leave at 10 pm

Ward Medicine Call (2 months of the year):

  • Average of every 5 days
  • Short call: 7 am – 3 pm
  • Long call: 3 pm – 7 am (round on patients starting at 7 am and leave by 11 am the next day for a total of 28 hours)
    Duties Include:
  • Respond to and run all codes
  • Staff wards intern
  • Cross-cover other wards teams’ patients overnight
  • Admit all wards patients

Third Year Call

Family Medicine Call (12 months of the year)

  • Average of every 14 days
  • 8 am – noon (28 hours)
  • Home call! (may go home if no need to be in the hospital)
  • Able to trade calls to accommodate personal schedules
    Duties Include:
  • Admissions for all 2nd and 3rd year patients as well as director patients
  • Staff interns on all patients and procedures, and answer questions
  • Staff with Family Medicine Director on call
  • Take intern’s call duties when they leave at 10 pm
