Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital has experienced hospitalists available to help coordinate your care and provide increased access to physicians throughout your stay. A hospitalist’s main focus is to direct patient medical care during hospitalization.

You may benefit from having a hospitalist oversee your care if you require lengthy or multiple hospital stays for a complex disease such as cancer, diabetes, hypertension or pulmonary illness. Our hospitalists specialize in several areas, including pre- and post-surgical care, stroke and heart failure.

IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital Hospitalist Services Program operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our hospitalists are considered leaders of quality inpatient care and all are board certified or board eligible in their field.

Your hospitalist will see you in the hospital and is available to review tests, respond to calls and quickly address your questions and concerns. Your hospitalist will stay in close contact with your entire team of caregivers, including doctors, nurses and medical providers, including physician assistants, pharmacists, social workers and anyone else involved in your care.

You may see more than one hospitalist during your stay, but your care will always be coordinated and seamless. You can expect a visit from the hospitalist at least once each day during your stay in the hospital.

Your hospital-based physician also collaborates with your primary care physician to keep him or her informed of your admission, treatment, discharge and any necessary follow-up treatment. Once you are discharged, your primary care physician will receive a detailed report of your hospital stay for their records.
