Da Vinci Surgical Robot
Since 2006, IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital continues to be a leader in robotic surgery. Our surgeons use the innovative da Vinci Surgical System® to perform minimally-invasive procedures including gynecologic, urologic, thoracic and general surgeries.
The robotic system allows the surgeon’s hand movements to be scaled, filtered and translated into precise movements using micro-instruments within the operative site. The surgeon performs the surgery from a console where he uses a 3-D viewfinder and is able to perform the most complex and delicate procedures, while causing the least amount of damaging side effects.
Benefits for Patients include:
- Less pain and blood loss
- Reduced scaring
- Shorter recovery time
- Earlier return to normal activities
IU Health Ball Memorial is home to the most experienced OB/GYN robotic surgery team in the state. IU Health Ball Memorial surgeons continuously travel around the state to partner hospitals to provide education and training as partner robotic programs are launched.
