Access to emergency medicine services at IU Health Blackford Hospital is located on the southwest side of the hospital. The department is equipped with six emergency beds, including two trauma beds and four private examination rooms.

The IU Health Blackford Emergency Medicine staff, comprised of highly trained professionals with advanced cardiac life support and/or trauma training, evaluates all patients immediately upon arrival. After evaluation, each patient is examined by a skilled emergency medicine physician who has access to specialty consultation from a wide variety of local and regional healthcare professionals. We provide advanced diagnostic and therapeutic services, along with all necessary equipment and supplies for examination and treatment—particularly for the management of life-threatening conditions.

If necessary, patients can be transferred to one of our two Level I Trauma Centers equipped to treat the most severe and life-threatening conditions—located at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital and Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health. Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health is the only pediatric Level I Trauma Center in Indiana and features highly trained teams that specialize in the emergency medical care of infants, children and adolescents.

Through research and clinical trials, in partnership with the Indiana University School of Medicine, we improve outcomes for our most critically ill and injured patients.
