Happy Healthy You

Many of us try to make changes to improve our diet or exercise in the New Year.  We want a fresh start, but these changes can sometimes be too drastic, and we may be setting ourselves up for failure.

Here are few tips to get your New Year started off right:

  • Make realistic goals.  Never eating chocolate again or exercising 60 minutes every day (when you have not been exercising at all) are not realistic goals.  SMART goals are the best way to be successful with change.
    • S=specific
    • M=measurable
    • A=achievable
    • R=realistic
    • T=timely.
  • A healthier lifestyle can be easier when we have enough sleep.  Include good sleep habits in with your New Year changes.  Research actually shows poor sleep habits can affect our eating and exercise habits as well as our school work..
  • Work with your family or friends to reach your goals.  Support from family and friends can make changes easier for everyone.
  • Celebrate without food.  If you meet your goals do something fun or active like going shopping with friends, going bowling or ice skating.

Something else is that can help you start your year off right is the new Healthy Habits App!  It will help you build better habits, set goals, monitor your progress and set reminders!  Download the free app by clicking here:  http://iuh.me/Ta5nce
