Indiana’s only Level I Pediatric Trauma Center
It is my great pleasure to join the Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health blog, and introduce all of you to our Pediatric Trauma Service. In the future, we will provide helpful tips on injury prevention and information about commonly seen childhood injuries, as well as inspirational stories of our patients overcoming incredible obstacles.
Here at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health, we are honored to provide the highest level of care to the injured child in the state as the only Level I Pediatric Trauma Center in Indiana. What does this mean? The American College of Surgeons (ACS) visits our hospital every three years, and conducts a thorough review of our practice standards, patient outcomes, hospital infrastructure, and methods through which we continually review and enhance our care of the injured child. The ACS recently performed their review of Riley and re-verified in January that we in deed continue to meet this highest level of practice and care. For the children and families across Indiana, this means that Riley is the best place for a child to receive care for any injury, ranging from simple broken bones to the most severe injuries requiring advanced interventions and rehabilitation services when needed.
We understand that having an injured child is every parent’s worst fear, and that also every injury is inherently different and unique, so the Trauma service utilizes a multi-disciplinary and tailored approach to each individual situation with the ultimate goal of supporting our patients and their families throughout the hospital stay and achieving the best outcome possible.
