News article: Pedometers may be key to preventing obesity

Have you ever walked around with a pedometer before? I can be super competitive and I know that when I wear a pedometer I am more likely to get up and move around while I'm in the office instead of remaining sedentary all day. This article just proves that this little tool (which is relatively inexpensive) can be a great way to help remain more active throughout the work day.

What do you think? Do you have a pedometer you use regularly? Are you more willing to buy one now? They don't have to just be for teens! Full text can be found here.

Pedometers can encourage children as well as adults to be more active, a new study has found.

Researchers from the University of Newcastle in Australia analysed the results of 14 international studies where pedometers were used to track physical activity in children aged eight to 11 years and teenagers aged 14 to 17 years.

They found that pedometers were a successful way of encouraging young people to get active.
