Pay Ranges

Indiana University Health Bloomington uses a market pricing approach to place new positions or to update existing positions within its pay schedules. The pay schedules contain pay grades and their associated ranges for positions within the Hospital. There are different pay schedules for non-exempt (hourly) and exempt (not eligible for overtime, differentials, etc.) positions. A pay grade is the name of a particular pay range. A pay range contains the minimum that an employee in that position will be paid as well as the maximum that will be paid. See example below.

PAY SCHEDULE: NON-EXEMPT A

Pay Grade NE-A27:

Min Mid Max
$10.61 $12.94 $15.27

Using wage survey data from independent, 3rd-party salary surveys such as Indiana Hospital Association, Central Indiana Hospital Group, and Volunteer Hospitals of America, Human Resources and the Senior Leadership Group makes decisions on what pay grade to place our “benchmark” positions Benchmark positions are those positions that are listed in the salary surveys, knowing that not every position will have salary survey data.

For jobs that we do not have salary survey data, positions are evaluated and placed into the appropriate pay grade according to a review of job duties, responsibilities and qualifications with other comparable positions within the Hospital.
