Benefits of IU Health Home Care

Home is the best place to rest and find comfort especially when a patient is recovering from an illness or injury.  For many patients, recovering in the comfort of their own home has a therapeutic value that enhances the healing process.  Home care can be a practical and comfortable option for people seeking a variety of health services.  We feel it is a privilege to visit patients in their home and honor that trust by delivering exceptional, compassionate care.

The Strength of Our Care Team

As Monroe County’s only not-for-profit home health care provider, Indiana University Health Home Care has more than 80 years of home health experience. We offer a comprehensive and advanced range of services provided by a highly qualified professional staff.  Our clinicians have received multiple awards for the care they give, including the Eleanor Koon Home Health Award, the Hal Palmer Rehab Award, the Mary & William Oliver Dementia Award, the Excellence in Geriatric Care Award, and the Excellence in Compassionate Care Award.

Individualized Care

We work with caregivers, physicians and patients to develop an individualized care plan that can include services ranging from wound dressing or medication administration, to advanced care such as IV therapy or rehabilitation. In addition, our staff is able to provide education on caring for family members with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia and if needed can connect you with many community resources.

Some of the services offered include but are not limited to:

  • Comprehensive management of conditions like diabetes, COPD and heart failure, thus reducing the risk of re-hospitalization
  • Medical management with lab monitoring and finger-stick anti-coagulation checks with immediate results
  • High tech interventions for a wide range of IV therapies, including symptom management, nutritional support and certain types of chemo drugs, with oversight of our in-house pharmacist and clinical staff
  • Wound care management and access to certified wound care nurses with physicians’ collaboration
  • Pain management

Our rehab professionals include physical, occupational and speech therapists.  They can help you regain your independence and quality of life, and provide some of the following interventions:

  • Falls prevention, home safety evaluation and balance retraining
  • Custom-tailored exercise programs for all patients, including cardiac and pulmonary patients
  • Post-op management of orthopedic surgeries
  • Progression of stroke rehab started in hospital as part of IU Health Advanced Certified Primary Stroke Center program
  • Bladder retraining for incontinence
  • Interventions for memory problems
  • Access to medical equipment through our IU Health Home Medical Equipment department

Home care is covered by most insurances including Medicare.  IU Health Home Care clinicians will assess your needs to ensure you meet criteria for coverage.
