Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit
Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital is a CARF-Accredited Adult Inpatient Rehabilitation Program
Physicians, nurses and therapists work collaboratively in this 21-bed unit to provide interdisciplinary care. Services include multiple levels of inpatient care and rehabilitation; an intensive therapy program; physical, occupational and speech therapy; integrated, interdisciplinary team approach; family-centered philosophy; and individualized, face-to-face pre-screening of all patients.
The IU Health Inpatient Rehab Unit in Bloomington focuses on helping patients regain quality of life following a neurological condition or injury, or orthopedic surgery or injury. Patients will work with a team of nurses, physicians, and therapists throughout their stay. An intensive three-hour per day therapy program is a staple in each patient’s rehabilitation routine. Patients work with their clinical team in a dedicated nursing unit, gym, and dining area.
Our team of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation physicians provide care to those staying in the IU Health Inpatient Rehab Unit. They are available on the Inpatient Rehab Unit Monday through Friday and round on patients a minimum of three days per week.
Not only does the Unit’s clinical team strive to provide quality care while patients are in the hospital, but it also works to ensure their transition home is positive. The social workers and case manager on the team work with each patient during the discharge process, whether the patient is going home or is transitioning to another level of care, to answer questions, help make arrangements, and explain the patient’s condition and any ongoing therapy or medications.
