Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital Women & Children's Services is designed with the comfort of mom, baby and family in mind. From our brightly decorated labor and delivery rooms to the loungers nearby for dad, we're ready to make your birthing experience relaxing and enjoyable. You’re welcome to schedule an in-person tour of the Center before your big day.
Our family birth center focuses on the emotional and physical well being of you and your baby. We have many private labor and delivery and private post-partum rooms that are fully equipped with monitors needed for safe childbirth. Every family is assigned a team of obstetricians, pediatricians, anesthesiologists, and nurses that focuses on the care of you and your baby.
Preparing For Your Stay
Star Bright Beginnings: We provide multiple childbirth preparation classes.
IU Health Bloomington Hospital Childbirth Guide: Download our free guide to childbirth for patients and partners. This is the 3rd and final booklet (1 & 2 available soon) detailng your hospital stay and your return home. Items such as visiting information; labor, birth and recovery; when you go home, what do you need before you go home, and what does your baby need before going home; a postpartum self-care plan; and varying checklists to help you organize your information.
Packing List: Wondering what to bring with you? Our experienced nursing staff created this packing list specifically for you needs at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
Birth Wishes Checklist: We’ve designed a Birth Wishes Checklist so you can learn about the care and comfort options available to you before your stay. This checklist covers labor through postpartum. It’s also flexible, so when the time comes you or your healthcare provider can always make changes. Be sure to pack your checklist to bring with you.
Pre-registration: You can pre-register at IU Health Bloomington Hospital for your maternity services. When you arrive, come directly to Labor and Delivery.
Pre-Admission Questionnaire: In addition to pre-registering we have a Pre-Admission Questionnaire that will speed things along upon your arrival.
During your stay
Snooze & Snuggle Time: This is a time set aside for mom to rest and bond with baby. Snooze & Snuggle Time for the Mother/Baby Unit is from 3 - 5 pm.
Lactation Services: We offer inpatient consultations 365 days a year with an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) or Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC). Learn more about our Lactation Services.
Wireless Internet Access: During your stay we offer free wireless internet access so you can browse the internet or communicate with distant loved ones. If you have a laptop, you’re welcome to bring it. If not, we have laptops available for inpatients to borrow.
Newborn photos and online gallery: IU Health Bloomington Hospital offers our parents in-room baby photography. You can order prints, announcements, gifts and more. Our365, provides this service, and you will be required to create and share a password to protect your privacy.
Hugs & Kisses Infant Protection System™ prevents unauthorized exits from the unit.
