IU Health-IUPUI RN-to-BSN Degree Completion Program

IU Health partners with the IU School of Nursing to offer up to 35 RNs annually the opportunity to earn a BSN degree while working at any IU Health facility. Students are part of a cohort that meets on Thursdays on the IUPUI campus in downtown Indianapolis. Face-to-face classes are supplemented by online learning on a set semester schedule.

Nursing tuition rates are discounted, and cohort members are eligible for IU Health tuition reimbursement up to $3,000 per academic year. Post-degree completion work commitments are required. Interested RNs may contact Becky Mackey at with questions.

UIndy-IU Health Collaborative Nursing Cohort Program

In 2004, IU Health and the University of Indianapolis partnered to provide on-site BSN and MSN programs to IU Health nurses. This is known as the UIndy-IU Health Collaborative Nursing Cohort Program.

The program applies to all IU Health Academic Health Center full-time and part-time nurses, special weekend program RNs and Resource Center (pool) RNs with a work commitment of 20 or more hours per week.
The program supports diploma- or ASN/ADN-prepared nurses in obtaining their BSN; and BSN nurses in obtaining a MSN degree with an education or nursing health science leadership focus. For additional information, please see HR Policy 160.

Program information sessions are conducted in September for staff interested in pursuing a BSN degree and in February for staff interested in pursuing a MSN degree.

Representatives from both IU Health and UIndy present information about the programs and answer questions.  Details about these sessions are distributed and posted in The Synergist, on Pulse and sent to each unit about six weeks in advance of the session.

Eligibility requirements for tuition reimbursement include:

  1. Full tuition benefit received after successful graduation from a BSN or MSN program and followed by 4,160 hours of employment at IU Health.
  2. Employee must complete the initial six-month employment period prior to the start of the educational course(s).
  3. Employee must maintain an eligible and active employment status throughout the completion of the academic semester/quarter.
  4. Changing employment status from eligible to supplemental during any course(s) will make the employee ineligible to receive the benefit of IU Health paying for that course.
  5. IU Health will provide tuition benefit up to $5,250 per calendar year per each enrolled employee.  Amounts in excess of $5,250 annually are the responsibility of the student.  All other costs (i.e. books, supplies) are the student’s responsibility.
