If you are admitted to an Indiana University Health hospital, one of our experienced hospitalists is available to help coordinate your care throughout your stay. A hospitalist is a physician who specializes in the practice of hospital medicine, a medical specialty dedicated to the delivery of comprehensive medical care to hospitalized patients.

Indiana University Health Frankfort Hospital uses a team of hospitalists to provide care for patients in the hospital. These specialists have the skills and expertise to provide care specifically tailored to meet the needs of hospitalized patients and their families, especially for complex diseases such as cancer, diabetes, hypertension, heart failure or pulmonary illness.

Our hospitalists provide patients with continuity of care and work closely with your entire team of doctors, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists, social workers and anyone else involved in your care. They also collaborate with your primary care physician about your admission, treatment and discharge.

Hospitalists are available to monitor your progress and respond to any changes in your condition. Under your hospitalist's care, you and your family members have more opportunities to speak with a medical professional regarding your treatment. There is always a hospitalist on staff who can be at a patient’s bedside in a matter of minutes for emergencies and to answer questions from patients and their families.

Before you go home, the hospitalist provides you with a brief summary of your stay, including any information you need about follow-up care and medicines. We are committed to excellence in patient care and our highest concern is the health and safety of our patients.
