The Foundation in support of IU Health La Porte Hospital
The Foundation in support of Indiana University Health La Porte Hospital exists to support healthcare and healthy lifestyles in the communities we serve. The generosity of our donors allows us to be a vital part of our healthcare landscape, striving to make the place we have chosen to live, work and raise a family a healthier place to call home. Below is just a sampling of some of the programs and services we fund:
- The Lil’ F.I.S.H. Club®, which stands for Feel Important…Stay Healthy, is a program that reaches over 1,200 fourth grade elementary students in La Porte and Starke Counties. The program promotes healthy lifestyle choices–teaching youngsters about nutrition, dangers of tobacco, self-esteem, personal hygiene, dental health, exercise/heart health and assertive communication.
- Each year, we award healthcare scholarships to local students pursuing careers in healthcare. To date, we have awarded nearly $500,000 in scholarships.
- We fund free comprehensive health screenings to our community members. In addition to blood pressure checks, glucose and bone density testing, we fund a variety of cancer screenings including: cervical, breast, colorectal, skin and prostate. In 2012, over 3,100 community members participated in the free screenings.
Throughout the year, The Foundation in support of IU Health La Porte Hospital sponsors sponsors two special events yearly, Tour de La Porte and Holiday at the Pops Concert. Because of the continued success of these events, we are able to provide financial support for health-related needs in our community.
