A survey commissioned by IU Health Goshen and Elkhart General Hospital identifies obesity, smoking, diabetes, and access to primary care and mental health services as the five major health concerns of Elkhart County residents. Purdue University conducted the 2011 Community Needs Assessment.
Qualitative and quantitative data were collected to identify factors that impact community health. Data sources included hundreds of Elkhart County residents, area healthcare providers, and local and state government.
