Medical oncology – a specialty of internal medicine – deals with the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. It incorporates the use of chemotherapy and hormone therapy to treat prostate cancer.
Our medical oncology team at Indiana University Health Goshen Center for Cancer Care uses an integrated approach to treat the whole person, not just the cancer. This multidisciplinary team of specialists works together to determine the type of medical therapy and delivery system best suited for each patient's prostate cancer.
At IU Health Goshen Center for Cancer Care, chemotherapy and hormone therapy are both used to treat metastatic prostate cancer. Through a clinical trial, chemotherapy is also successfully being used to treat high-risk, localized prostate cancer in combination with surgery.
