Delivering quality, expert care during your hospital stay.
Our hospitalists coordinate with your care team to provide ease and comfort during your hospital stay.
During your hospital stay, especially if you are being treated for a complex disease such as diabetes, hypertension, heart failure or pulmonary illness, one of your main physicians may be a hospitalist with the Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital Inpatient Medicine Department. Your hospitalist will coordinate care, order any necessary tests, visit with you regularly, discuss your care plan with you and your family members and make arrangements for your discharge.
"Hospitalists" are physicians who care for patients in the hospital. They work closely with your health care team to ensure you receive the best possible care. It is likely that you will have more than one physician working with you.
Other important members of your healthcare team are nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists and care managers. A resident or intern may also be involved in your care as well. They work directly with your staff hospitalist.
If you have a primary care physician, your hospitalist will let your doctor know of your admission, the plan for your care and any follow-up required after discharge. When you leave the hospital, your primary care physician will resume responsibility for your care. If you do not have a primary care doctor, we would be pleased to refer you to one.
We are here to take care of you while you are in our hospitals. Please let us know if you need anything.
