Pediatric Stem Cell Transplants

In this video, Dr. Kent Robertson—stem cell transplant physician at Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health—describes the types of patients who require stem cell transplants. Children who have treatment-resistant cancers, difficult-to-treat cancers or those with distant metastases, need an enzyme their body cannot produce, or have bone marrow cells that have failed are good transplant candidates. Also discussed are clinical trials, which provide state-of-the-art therapy (e.g. gene therapy).
