The Melody Heart Valve Implant for Pediatric Patients
In this video, Dr. Mark Hoyer—pediatric cardiologist and director of cardiac catheterization Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health—describes how the Melody heart valve can be used in select children and adults with congenital heart defects and murmurs. It is mounted on a tube that travels through the leg blood vessel to the heart. When in place it opens and closes (like a door) each time the heart relaxes. It may minimize repeat valve surgeries throughout a patient’s life.
