G. Thor Thordarson
President/Chief Executive Officer

Mr. Thordarson was named President and Chief Executive Officer in July 2009 and previously joined IU Health La Porte Hospital in June of 2008 as Vice President, Corporate Operations. Prior to his service at IU Health La Porte Hospital, Mr. Thordarson served as healthcare administrator of ambulatory healthcare centers. He was the president of two consulting companies with a variety of strategic, financial and operations healthcare clients throughout the United States. Earlier in his career, Mr. Thordarson worked as a staff nurse on a peripheral vascular floor. Mr. Thordarson received his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Andrews University and a Master in Business Administration from Kent State University. William J. Houston, MD
Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Houston joined the IU Health La Porte Hospital Emergency Department in 1983 after finishing his residency in Family Practice at Memorial Hospital in South Bend. He received his Board certification in Family Practice that same year. In 1986, Dr. Houston became the Assistant Medical Director of the Emergency Department, and in 1994 he became the Medical Director. He is certified in Advance Trauma Life Support, and Advance Cardiac Life Support. Dr. Houston also served as a member of IU Health La Porte Hospital Board from January 2005 to January 2011. In 2006 he accepted the position of the Chief Medical Officer of IU Health La Porte Hospital. Dr. Houston attended DePaul University where he received his Bachelor of Science in Biology. He then attended Southern Illinois University School of Medicine where he received his Medical Degree. Dr. Houston was a member of the Air Force Reserves in the capacity of a flight surgeon and won awards for Tactical Air Command, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Nation Defense medal, and the Air Force Military Merit medal. He completed and received certification for the school of Aerospace Medicine and the Squadron Officer School. He became the A-10 Squadron Flight Surgeon at Grissom Air Force Base and flew several missions with the Squadron. Pauline Arnold
Chief Nursing Quality Officer/Vice President Clinical Operations

Mrs. Arnold was named Chief Nursing and Quality Officer in April 2012. She previously served as the Executive Director of Quality and Safety for the IUH La Porte and Starke Hospital since 2006. She has served in many leadership roles in her professional career including critical care, medical-surgical, ambulatory Care, long-term care, patient care administrative supervisor, quality, accreditation and regulatory compliance. She received her Bachelors in Nursing from Goshen College, Masters in Administration from the University of Notre Dame and Masters in Nursing from the University of St. Francis, Fort Wayne. She is certified in regulatory and accreditation compliance as well as a National Patient Safety Foundation/American Hospital Association Patient Safety Fellow. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International, National Association of Healthcare Quality, Association for Healthcare Accreditation Professionals, and the American Society of Professionals in Patient Safety. Jeffrey E. Anderson, MD
Chief Medical Information Quality Officer 

Dr. Anderson joined IU Health La Porte Hospital as a physician in the emergency department in 2002 and remains in that capacity today. In addition to his responsibilities as a physician in the emergency department at IU Health La Porte Hospital, Dr. Anderson also serves as President of the Medical Staff, Member of the Board of Directors and Chief Medical Information and Quality Officer. Dr. Anderson has served in the past as Medical Information Officer and Chairman of the Medical Staff Quality Improvement Committee at IU Health La Porte Hospital and has over 25 years of experience as a physician in the greater Chicago area. In addition to his extensive clinical experience, Dr. Anderson has executive experience as President and CEO of multiple companies focused on diagnostics, research and medical consulting. Dr. Anderson is a member of 16 professional societies and has experience as the head of immunoregulation research, instructor, associate research scientist and assistant professor at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Anderson holds medical licensure in Illinois and Indiana. He is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Trauma Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support and as a Certified Medical Review Officer. Brian Donnelly
Vice President of Strategy and Ambulatory Services

Mr. Donnelly joined IU Health La Porte and Strake hospitals in June of 2012 with 30 years in health care administration, most recently with Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, an affiliate of Dartmouth Hitchcock Health, where he served as Chief Administrative Officer for the employed physician group. Previously, Mr. Donnelly served as Executive Vice President of Health Partners Medical Group and VP of Operation of Saint Anthony Hospital in Michigan City. Prior to relocating to the Midwest, Mr. Donnelly was a partner with Contemporary Management Associates, a Portsmouth NH based management and consulting firm servicing private medical practice in New England market. Mr. Donnelly holds a BS Degree in Accounting from Merrimack College and an MBA from New Hampshire College. He is a member of the Society for Health Care Strategy and Market Development, the Medical Group Management Association and is board certified by the American College of Medical Practice Executives. Robert H. Petrina
Interim Chief Financial Officer

Mr. Petrina joined IU Health La Porte Hospital in August 2013. He brings nearly 30 years of extensive experience in the financial field to his new position. Most recently, he worked with Insight Health Partners in St. Petersburg, Fla., where he provided strategic and financial consulting services for a hospital. Prior, Mr. Petrina served as the Vice President/Regional Chief Financial Officer for a healthcare system in Oakland, Calif. In addition, he served as the Chief Financial Officer for several medical facilities in California while also performing consulting work. Mr. Petrina received his Bachelor of Science in accounting and finance from the University of California and his Master of Business Administration in health services management from the Golden Gate University. Byron Holm, MD
Chief Medical Officer - IU Health La Porte Physicians

Byron M. Holm, MD joined IU Health La Porte Physicians in August 2011. In 1969 he earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Chemistry and Physiology from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana. In 1973, Dr. Holm earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Indiana University School of Medicine, Indianapolis, Indiana. He began practicing family medicine and corporate healthcare privately in Plymouth, Indiana in 1974. He has expanded the concept with the development of “one stop” health care through convenient state of the art diagnostic services, rehabilitation, wellness programs and corporate health care. In partnership with various computer technology companies, his medical practice has been a beta test sight for computerized accounting and medical records. Dr. Holm’s practice has been utilizing electronic medical records (EMR) since 1996. He has a fundamental interest in utilizing professional support personnel and Nurse Practitioners for more effective patient care. He currently provides community service as County Health Officer (Marshall County) and is the Paramedic Director for the City of Plymouth. La Porte Hospital Foundation

Maria V. Fruth
Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer - La Porte Hospital Foundation

After serving for over a year as Director of Development, Mrs. Fruth was named Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the La Porte Hospital Foundation in January 1998. She provides overall coordination for all aspects of the Foundation’s important role within IU Health La Porte Hospital and Volunteer Services and serves as the liaison with the La Porte Hospital Auxiliary. Her career with us followed many years of teaching, community service and business experience. She received her BA Degree from the University Federal Minas Gerais in Brazil. Mrs. Fruth is a member of the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy and Association of Fundraising Professionals. In 1999, she received her Certification in Fund Raising Management from Indiana University Center on Philanthropy, Fund Raising School. She also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Healthy Communities of La Porte County, the LEAF Board through the La Porte Chamber of Commerce and Community Health Center/Dental Clinic Advisory Board.
