Respiratory disorders can be life altering, and those who face them require expert programs and services that will help them get stronger physically and emotionally. The Center for Better Breathing is a place where patients come to learn more about managing their disease, medications and to set goals for recovery. Respiratory or lung disorders include asthma, emphysema, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pneumonia, tuberculosis, acute or chronic bronchitis and lung cancer.
Our goals are to prevent and reduce lung disease, reduce emergency and hospital visits, improve quality of life, decrease suffering, offer follow-up assistance and keep people of all ages healthy through patient education, self-help techniques, prevention and rehabilitation.

In the 2005 edition, Indiana University Health La Porte Hospital was named among the top 50 hospitals nationwide in the specialty of treating respiratory disorders. Of 6,007 hospitals across the U.S., only 176 scored high enough to be ranked by U.S. News & World Report.
IU Health La Porte Hospital is among approximately 10% of hospitals nationwide to receive the Quality Respiratory Care Recognition (QRCR) under a national program that helps patients and families make informed decisions about the quality of respiratory care services available. Hospitals earning the QRCR designation assure patient safety by agreeing to adhere to a strict set of criteria governing respiratory care services.
