Childbirth Education Classes

The following classes are offered at IU Health Methodist Hospital.

Methodist Birth Options: Free

Methodist Expectant Parent Tour: Free

All parents-to-be and their families are invited to tour their birthplace. Your tour guide will answer all your questions about our facility.

Hypnobabies Childbirth Preparation: $325

Hypnobabies is a 6-week comprehensive childbirth education class that meets once per week for 3 and half hours each time, with daily practice that moms and their partners do together from the time you start the class until the time the baby is born. "Comprehensive" means the classes cover all the information you would receive in most other childbirth education classes, including nutrition and exercise, what to expect during labor, delivery, and postpartum, and an overview of birth options with risks, benefits, and alternatives. The classes also teach real medical self-hypnosis for an easier, more comfortable birthing experience. We recommend starting your course sometime between 20 and 30 weeks of pregnancy, but have had people take it earlier or later with great success, too.

Fast Track Childbirth Preparation: $75

This class is encouraged for first-time parents. Women and their support persons will learn about the process of labor and birth, coping strategies, and labor support techniques. A registered nurse will cover topics of breathing, relaxation, epidurals, cesarean birth, postpartum care and immediate newborn care.

Newborn Basics: $25

This class will give you the opportunity to explore, discuss and share your concerns and experiences in caring for a new baby in the first month. A registered nurse will discuss baby care topics such as bathing, holding, feeding, comforting a crying baby, and much more.

Breastfeeding with Ease: $25

Learn how to make breastfeeding a positive experience for you and your baby by attending this informative class for mothers and their partners. We teach practical information about positioning, latch-on, and also discuss common concerns and problems related to breastfeeding. All classes are taught by registered nurses, certified as lactation consultants or counselors.
