To better serve transplant patients, IU Health Methodist Hospital launched an organ transplant support group program. Support groups are monthly meetings of patients, families, and caregivers at all stages pre- and post-transplant who meet for education, emotional support and information exchange related to organ transplant. The meetings are held by the hospital staff psychologist to provide information about:
- The transplant procedure and process
- Patient’s personal adjustments and experiences
- Caregiver coping needs
- Patient and families stress-management strategies
The Heart/Lung Transplant Support Group is for patients who are pre- and post- heart or lung transplant. The group meets on the fourth Monday of each month.
The Second Chance Support Group is specifically for adult transplant patients on ventricular assist devices (VADs).
These support group meetings are free, and no registration is required. For more information, contact Cardiac Rehabilitation at 765.747.3773.
