A cohesive team of neurosurgeons, neuropathologists, neuropsychologists, radiation oncologists and the state’s only two fellowship-trained neuro-oncologists works together to deliver the highest level of care to people suffering from brain and spinal tumors.
Our highly skilled neurosurgeons are well-trained in all treatment methods for the full range of brain-related conditions, including brain aneurysms, tumors and injuries.

More than 1,200 trauma patients are admitted to IU Health each year. Our doctors work in Indiana's largest adult Level I Trauma Center and the state’s only pediatric Level I Trauma Center, where they make every effort to provide the best care possible, regardless of the situation. We are also home to the nation's largest adult neuro-critical care unit for the most advanced monitoring and treatment of people with brain injuries or other neurological diseases.
Choosing IU Health Neuroscience could be one of the most important decisions you ever make. You can be confident knowing we are innovators, providing the most sophisticated care in the state. We take pride in offering the latest technologies to our patients, knowing that a piece of equipment is only as good as the expert team behind it.
Leading-edge neurosurgical suites
Eight recently renovated surgical suites at IU Health Methodist Hospital are fully integrated and streamlined to perform complex neurosurgical procedures in a safe and efficient environment. The suites feature the most advanced surgical tools, imaging technologies and surgical navigation systems, as well as remote viewing capabilities.
Intraoperative MRI scanner (IMRIS)
As the first-of-its-kind in the state, the IMRIS enables doctors to see brain tumors more clearly during surgery so they can operate with a higher level of safety and accuracy.
Administered in affiliation with the IU Health Proton Therapy Center, proton therapy is a leading-edge alternative therapy for rare and complex cancers. It is an ultra-precise, noninvasive procedure, which minimizes damage to surrounding tissues. And side effects are generally nonexistent or minimal.
IU Health Neuroscience is the first adult hospital in the Midwest, and first children’s hospital in world, to offer this fully automated device that helps neurosurgeons remove hard-to-reach tumors in the brain and spine.
24/7 real-time continuous neuro-monitoring
IU Health Neuroscience is the only program in the nation that provides 24-hour brain neuromonitoring, in real time, by onsite experts. This model enables faster, more accurate diagnoses and critical real-time observation of a medication’s effectiveness.
IU Health Neuroscience offers a complete spectrum of care for conditions affecting the central nervous system, including the brain, spinal cord, nerves and muscles. As one of the largest, most comprehensive programs in the nation, we are home to a team of highly skilled, board certified neurologists and neurosurgeons, as well as other leading clinicians and researchers.
