Dr. Paul Calkins Named Interim CMO for IU Health North Hospital

Carmel, Ind.— Paul Calkins, MD, was recently selected as the Interim Chief Medical Officer of IU Health North Hospital, located at 116th & Meridian Streets in Carmel. Effective January 1, 2013, Dr. Calkins will lead IU Health North Hospital’s 1,400-member medical staff while maintaining communication with various departments and physicians. He will be involved in administrative decision making and planning as needed.

Currently, Dr. Calkins is the Service Line Leader for Anesthesia for Indiana University Health Physicians, a role he has fulfilled for the past two years. Prior to accepting that role, Dr. Calkins was the Medical Director of Surgical Services at IU Health North Hospital from 2005-2011. He is also a practicing anesthesiologist with Anesthesia Consultants of Indianapolis and will continue serving patients in this role while serving as the interim CMO at IU Health North Hospital.

Dr. Calkins attained his medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1984 and completed his residency in 1987 at the Indiana University Department of Anesthesia. He has served IU Health in various administrative capacities since 1999.

Dr. Calkins and his wife Liz have two college-age children.
