LAFAYETTE, IN—Indiana University Health Arnett is pleased to announce that Alicia Pate, MPAS, PA-C has joined our Cardiovascular department.
Alicia will practice at IU Health Arnett Hospital, rounding regularly on Cardiology patients and assisting in Cardio-Thoracic surgery.
Alicia has practiced as a physician assistant for eight years, completing her Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies at University of Nebraska Medical Center. Prior to becoming a physician assistant, she practiced as an RN. Alicia received her BS from Southern Illinois University and Associate Degree of Nursing from John A. Logan College.
A certified physician assistant, PA-C, is a licensed health professional who practices medicine under the supervision of a physician. As part of the physician/PA team, a physician assistant exercises considerable independence in diagnosing and treating illnesses.
Physician assistants working with physicians provide a better distribution of healthcare services, and improve access to those services. Patient waiting times are reduced, and providers have more time for questions, counseling and education. This helps to increase the level of patient understanding and compliance, which in turn increases the quality and reduces the cost of healthcare.
Alicia was drawn to Cardiac-Thoracic Surgery and Cardiology because heart disease is a leading cause of death in America and she wanted to do her part to provide treatment and education to people with the disease. Her special interests include endoscopic vein harvesting (EVH) and surgical assisting.
In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and daughters.
