IU Health Bloomington announces new Chief Operating Officer

Bloomington, IN (September 4, 2015) – Matthew Bailey, FACHE will join IU Health Bloomington as the Chief Operating Officer on October 5, 2015. As a member of the organization’s regional senior leadership team, reporting to IU Health South Central Region President Mark Moore, Bailey will work closely with the regional vice presidents, physicians and hospital leadership to develop strategic and operational plans. He will also play a key role in the development, design and construction of the new regional academic health campus in Bloomington, which will be home to a new IU Health Bloomington Hospital and outpatient center.

“Matt Bailey is an accomplished healthcare leader and we are happy to have him join our team at this very exciting time in our region,” said Mark Moore, president, IU Health South Central Region. 

Joyce Poling, chair of the IU Health Bloomington Board of directors added, “I’m pleased to welcome Matt to the hospital’s senior leadership team.  During his career with Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes and IU Health West Hospital, Matt excelled and demonstrated his leadership abilities. I am certain he will be a great addition to our region.”

Bailey has more than 30 years of healthcare experience in community-based hospitals. He most recently served as President and CEO of IU Health West Hospital in Avon, Ind., where he led the operational, clinical and strategic direction for the hospital. Under Bailey’s leadership, IU Health West earned Magnet designation and grew patient visits to the hospital. Prior to joining IU Health, he served as president and chief executive officer of Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, Ind.

“I am thrilled to be returning to southern Indiana and putting down new roots in the region,” said Bailey. “The future holds many opportunities for IU Health and our community and I am honored to be a part of the team that will lead this exciting evolution of how healthcare is delivered.” 

Bailey earned a Masters in Health Administration from the University of Minnesota and is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. He received his undergraduate degree from Indiana University and also completed the Hoosiers Fellow program at IU. Bailey is a current board member for the Indiana Hospital Association and the Hendricks County Economic Development Corporation.
