IU Health North Hospital Names Chief Medical Officer

Carmel, Ind.— Paul Calkins, MD, was recently selected as the Chief Medical Officer of Indiana University Health North Hospital, located at 116th & Meridian Streets in Carmel. Effective June 30, 2013, Dr. Calkins will lead IU Health North Hospital’s 1,400-member medical staff while maintaining communication with various departments and physicians. In addition, he will be involved in administrative decision making and planning.
Dr. Calkins has served as the interim CMO at IU Health North Hospital since January 1, 2013. During that time he also continued his role as the Service Line Leader for Anesthesia for Indiana University Health Physicians. Prior to accepting that position downtown, Dr. Calkins was the Medical Director of Surgical Services at IU Health North Hospital from 2005-2011. He is also a practicing anesthesiologist with Anesthesia Consultants of Indianapolis and will continue serving patients in this role while also fulfilling his position as the CMO at IU Health North Hospital.
Dr. Calkins attained his medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1984 and completed his residency in 1987 at the Indiana University Department of Anesthesia. He has served IU Health in various administrative capacities since 1999. He is currently enrolled in a master’s program in clinical informatics at IUPUI.
Dr. Calkins and his wife Liz reside in Indianapolis and have two college-age children.
