IU Health North Hospital to “Turn Pink” in October to Light the Path Through Breast Cancer
An IU Health North Hospital Release
Carmel, Ind. - For the third consecutive year, Indiana University Health North Hospital will turn its campus pink in October in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, while raising funds for a local breast cancer organization. The public is invited to participate in the effort by making online donations to sponsor pink solar lights that will be placed on IU Health North Hospital's grounds to represent those whose lives have been touched by breast cancer.
Lights are $5 each and can be dedicated to honor, remember, or thank a friend or family member who fought breast cancer or helped another through her journey with the disease. All proceeds will go to the I.W.I.N. (Indiana Women In Need) Foundation, a local non-profit organization that assists Indiana women and their families enduring breast cancer treatment. Pink solar lights can be dedicated online through October 31 at IWINfoundation.org.
"So many lives are touched by breast cancer, and by spreading pink elements throughout the hospital campus, we are able to bring greater attention to breast cancer and support those who are fighting it," said Julia Whiteker, manager of Breast Care at IU Health North Hospital. "We hope to receive donations for 1,000 pink solar lights that will allow us to support the I.W.I.N. Foundation and the many wonderful things it does for breast cancer patients throughout the state."
On Monday, October 1, the pink solar lights will be placed on the grounds of IU Health North Hospital at 116th and North Meridian streets and will remain there through October 31.
And, IU Health North Hospital's "turn pink" efforts extend far beyond the solar lights that will be placed around the campus: Atrio, the hospital's restaurant, will offer pink desserts throughout October; pink water will run through the hospital's outdoor fountains; and pink mums will decorate the landscape. Media members are invited to join IU Health North Hospital's associates as they place the pink lights around the hospital campus on Monday, October 1 at 10 am. Hospital executives and members of the IU Health breast care program will be available for interviews. Please contact Joy Davis if you plan to attend.
