IU Health West Recognized as “Fit-Friendly” Workplace by American Heart Association

An IU Health West Release

Indiana University Health West Hospital has been recognized as a "fit-friendly" workplace by the American Heart Association (AHA). The hospital received the AHA's Gold Level Start! Fit-Friendly Company recognition for making the health and wellness of employees an organizational priority by:

  • Offering employees physical activity support.
  • Providing/increasing healthy eating options at the worksite.
  • Promoting a wellness culture.
  • Implementing at least nine criteria as outlined by the AHA in the areas of physical activity, nutrition and culture.

Examples of IU Health West's efforts in these areas included opening the hospital's Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation gym for employee fitness during evening and weekend hours and providing nutritional content information for menu items in the Garden Cafe.

The AHA presented IU Health West Hospital's Gold Award to CEO Matt Bailey and Cardiopulmonary Rehab supervisor Joe Newman at the hospital's seventh annual Founder's Day celebration on December 14, 2011. IU Health West Hospital is the first Indiana University Health partner to receive this AHA recognition.
