La Porte Hospital Foundation’s event supports patients with cancer

An IU Health La Porte Hospital Release

LA PORTE, Ind.–With the Tour de La Porte (TdL) just around the corner on Aug. 24 and 25, the La Porte Hospital Foundation is working hard to reach the goal of $75,000. The 2012 TdL raised $60,000 and had nearly 1,300 participants. The expectations for this year are high!

Initially created as a one-day cycling event to raise funds for those in La Porte with cancer, TdL has blossomed into a two-day event including walking, competitive running and high-caliber cycling as well. One hundred percent of TdL funds are used for direct patient assistance and cancer screenings for members of our community.  People both near and far gather in La Porte to participate in TdL each year, and the event has become a staple within the community.

Tour de La Porte Committee Chairman and The Foundation, in support of Indiana University Health La Porte Hospital, Board Chairman Mark Kosior stated that the committee has again raised the event bar by adding a mountain bike time trial to the established events: 5K, 10K, half marathon, road cycling time trial and all of the cycling distance events from five to 100 miles. The events are scheduled over a weekend to offer out-of-town participants the opportunity to discover and enjoy the La Porte community.

“The Tour de La Porte has been a tremendous success over the years because it offers an opportunity for individuals and families to participate in healthy and challenging activities while helping to support local cancer patients battling their disease,” said Kosior. “With the support of our underwriters, we are on our way to achieving this year’s goal to raise $75,000 to help local cancer patients.”

New this year, participants and Tour de La Porte supporters can purchase apparel with the TdL logo. The options for purchase are a hoodie, long sleeve T-shirt or baseball hat. Pictures of the apparel and links to buy can be found at People can also purchase TdL T-shirts and jerseys. Proceeds from all apparel sales will be donated to the Tour de La Porte.

Contribution or memorial gifts to the event are gratefully accepted from anyone who cannot participate in the event or who would like to donate more than just the registration fee. All proceeds from the event go directly back to the community to help local cancer patients receive the care that they need. Please participate Aug. 24 and 25 and donate if you can at
