RESIDENCY PROGRAM AT IU HEALTH ARNETT RECEIVES ACCREDITATION
An IU Health Arnett Hospital Release
—Indiana University Health Arnett and the Indiana University School of Medicine are proud to announce that the Indiana University School of Medicine Arnett Family Medicine Residency program has received its initial accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
The residency program is a collaboration between the IU School of Medicine and IU Health Arnett Primary Care. Residents will have the opportunity to learn in a unique, multidisciplinary environment, which also offers the opportunity for collaboration with hospital-based departments. The first class of residents is expected to begin July 2018.
The program offers the same exceptional healthcare that has come to be expected from IU Health Arnett Primary Care. The practice integrates Family Medicine, Behavioral Health and Women’s Health in a patient-centered environment which offers care for all life stages from newborns to seniors.
The Family Medicine Residency program will be housed in a brand new, state-of-the-art ambulatory-care facility located in the IU Health Arnett Medical Office Building at 5177 McCarty Avenue. Residents in this program are incorporated as physician partners within the hospital’s physician group.
“We are excited to add the Indiana University School of Medicine Arnett Family Medicine Residency program to IU Health Arnett,” stated Kishan Patel, MD, physician division director at IU Health Arnett. “Future physicians no longer need to leave our area to obtain their education and complete their residency program. This will open many doors for future physicians and residents of our community.”
IUSM Arnett Family Medicine Residency is led by Program Director, Michael Busha, MD, MBA and Associate Program Director, Kishan Patel, MD. In addition, Travis Dams, MD; Ashley Williams, MD and Jeffrey Williams, DO serve as faculty members and practicing physicians. The program is further enhanced by the clinical expertise of Shellene Coleman, FNP-BC, Rebecca Hauck, FNP-C and Mary Frances Hudson, LCSW, along with on-site pharmacy and dietician services. Alisha Clawson, MHA serves as Practice Manager and John May as Residency Program Coordinator.
The IUSM Arnett Family Medicine Residency is one of seven new positions for Indiana University School of Medicine residents to be approved by the Indiana Graduate Medical Education Board in order to address Indiana’s critical need for more physicians. Through exemplary education, the IUSM Arnett Family Medicine Residency program will prepare excellent future physicians to provide personalized care through multidisciplinary efforts that integrate comprehensive team-based care and population health approaches for individuals, families and the community.
