Surgeons


Dr. Jennifer Choi

Dr. Choi is a native of Princeton, Indiana. She graduated with Honors from Taylor University and the
Indiana University School of Medicine. She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract, the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, and the Association for Surgical Education. Dr. Choi is an Assistant Professor of General Surgery with the IU School of Medicine and is the Assistant Program Director of the General Surgery Residency.

Dr. Jack Ditslear

Dr. Ditslear is a native of Noblesville, Indiana. He graduated with Honors from Miami University of Ohio and the Indiana University School of Medicine. He is an Associate Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is a member of the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons. Dr. Ditslear is a Trauma surgeon and on the teaching staff for the Indiana University General Surgery Residency Program. Dr. Ditslear is also a trained and teaching surgeon on the daVinci Laparoscopic surgical technique.

Dr. Christopher Evanson

Dr. Evanson is a Minnesota native. He graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Bio Medical
Engineering and graduated from the Indiana University School of Medicine with Academic Honors. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. During his general surgery residency he won several awards for his surgical research. Dr. Evanson is also a member of several professional organizations and now specializes in laparoscopic bariatric procedures and minimally
invasive laparoendoscopic gastrointestinal procedures.

Dr. Margaret Inman

Dr. Inman is a native of Chicago, Illinois. She graduated from the University of Illinois-Chicago
with a Master’s degree in Biology and from the Indiana University School of Medicine with Academic
Honors. She is an Associate Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons. Dr. Inman is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine for the Indiana University General Surgery Residency Program.

Dr. Samer Mattar

Dr. Mattar received his medical degree from Cairo University and completed his residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Surgeons, the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons and the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract. Dr. Mattar is an Associate Professor of Surgery for the Indiana University School of Medicine.

Dr. Dan McKenna

Dr. McKenna is a Wisconsin native. He graduated with Honors from Creighton University Medical School. He was a clinical instructor with advanced training in laparoscopic and endoscopic techniques at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. His clinical interests include the laparoscopic management of numerous diseases including morbid obesity. Dr. McKenna is an Assistant Professor of General Surgery for the Indiana University School of Medicine.

Dr. Don Selzer

Dr. Selzer, Medical Director at IU Health Bariatric & Medical Weight Loss, graduated from the University of Wisconsin Medical School. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is a member of several professional organizations including the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Selzer is an Associate Professor of General Surgery and the director of the Center for Surgical Technology for the Indiana University School of Medicine.

Dr. Joan Temmerman, MS, FAAFP, CNS

Dr. Temmerman is a native of Chicago, Illinois. She is a Diplomat of both the American Board of Bariatric Medicine and the American Board of Family Medicine, and became recognized as a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians in 2006. She is a Certified Nutrition Specialist through the American College of Nutrition. She is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Department of Medicine at the Indiana University School of Medicine and serves on the Board of Directors, American Board of Obesity Medicine.

Dr. Kimberly Gorman, PhD, HSPP

Dr. Gorman is a native of Lexington, Kentucky. She is a Licensed Psychologist and a member of the
American Psychological Association. Prior to joining the IU Health Bariatric & Medical Weight Loss staff, she was the Associate Director of Training at the Ball State University Counseling Center and an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Counseling Psychology. Dr. Gorman specializes in the area of body image assessment and the treatment of eating disorders.

Dr. William Hilgendorf, PhD, HSPP

Dr. Hilgendorf is a Wisconsin native. He is a licensed Psychologist and has served as adjunct faculty for doctoral students from the University of Indianapolis, Ball State University and the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Dr. Hilgendorf is currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Pediatrics with the IU School of Medicine. His interests include the impact of bariatric surgery on quality of life, promotion of exercise, the integration of theology and psychology and the treatment of anxiety disorders.
