Reflux & GERD Treatment Seminar: LINX System

Description

Speaker: Don Selzer, MD
Medical Director, IU Health Bariatric Surgery & Medical Weight Loss Center

About the New GERD Treatment:
LINX Reflux Management System

In people with reflux, the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) is weak, allowing acid and bile to reflux from the stomach into the esophagus. The LINX device, a small implant comprised of interlinked titanium beads with magnetic cores, is placed around the LES to help it maintain a closed position when challenged by reflux. Swallowing forces temporarily breaks the magnetic bond, allowing food and liquid to pass normally into the stomach. This laparoscopic procedure is generally completed in less than one hour.
