Billing

Financial Arrangements

One of your responsibilities as a patient here is to understand and comply with our financial policies. As a courtesy to our patients, Indiana University Health North Hospital submits bills to your insurance company and will do everything possible to advance your claim.

However, it may become necessary for you to contact your insurance company or supply additional information to them for claims processing requirement or to expedite payment. You should remember that your policy is a contract between you and your insurance company, and you have the final responsibility for payment of your hospital bill.

Your Hospital Bill

Your hospital bill is based on the charges incurred while you are a patient. Your bill may also contain an outstanding balance from pre-admission testing performed. If you have insurance coverage, you may have co-payments and/or deductibles as determined by your insurer.

A copy of your hospital bill will be sent to you and your insurance company shortly after you go home. The hospital bill will include such items as your daily room rate, operating room charges, lab tests, x-rays, rehabilitation services, medications and supplies. Physician charges are billed separately. The hospital does submit all charges to your insurance company, but your insurer may not cover all charges. The amount that appears in the "patient" column is the amount due from you.

Physician Billing

Physician charges are not included as a part of your hospital bill. You will receive separate bills from physicians and/or surgeons who participated in your diagnosis and treatment, and any questions regarding these bills should be directed to the telephone number printed on the physician bill. You may receive bills from your:

  • Pediatrician
  • Surgeon
  • Anesthesiologist
  • Radiologist
  • Pathologist
  • Emergency department physician
