Chronic Bronchitis

Chronic bronchitis, along with emphysema and asthma, make up chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, commonly called COPD. If you have chronic bronchitis, the airways, called bronchi, in your lungs are constantly swollen and inflamed, causing your body to make more mucus. Because you have more mucus, you will cough more often and have difficulty breathing.

Chronic bronchitis can make it difficult to enjoy the activities you love. Frequent coughing can make you feel fatigued and cause your throat to feel sore. It can also increase your risk of getting an infection, like the cold or flu. Because it is difficult to breathe, you may tire easily and not feel up to going out or exercising.

Living with chronic bronchitis means making changes. Quitting smoking is the best change to make to improve your chronic bronchitis. You should also receive a flu vaccination every year and wash your hands often. Though it can be difficult, exercising is essential to keeping your lungs and heart as healthy as possible.
