As the state's only Level I Trauma Center, the intensive care team at Riley at IU Health provides dedicated care to approximately 1800 children a year. Children not only benefit by receiving care from our highly trained specialists, but also from our concentrated critical care teams with the expertise and strength to care for children with complex medical, surgical and traumatic conditions.
Staffed with highly trained physicians, along with advanced nurse practitioners and physician assistants, nurses and researchers, our critical care team provides a level of care unmatched throughout Indiana. As a nationally-recognized pediatric research and teaching hospital and partner of Indiana University School of Medicine we use the most innovative technologies and treatment options available. In order to provide your child with the best, most comprehensive care, we work closely with surgical teams, including neurosurgery, trauma, transplant and cardiac teams. If your child is being transferred to Riley at IU Health, the IU Health LifeLine provides PICU care to give him or her immediate attention from Riley PICU specialists.
In addition, we promote patient- and family-centered care and encourage parents and care takers to participate in the care and treatment of their child. We welcome parents and care takers to observe and participate in daily rounds, as they feel comfortable. Children may be required to have extended patient-stays, numerous operative procedures and constant, meticulous skin care. Our skilled medical, nursing and support team has expertise in helping both patients and their families through these particularly difficult experiences. We also provide guidance and support to those who will care for your child as he or she prepares to go home.
