Professional Education

Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health is dedicated to on-going medical education and professional development. Our partnership with Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) provides a large number of training opportunities—everything from internships to Continuing Medical Education (CME) for our physicians—to prepare healthcare providers for successful careers in medicine.

We work primarily with the Department of Pediatrics at IUSM, but we also have long-standing partnerships with the Department of Surgery and the Department of Anesthesiology, among others, to ensure that future healthcare providers have an opportunity to train at the only nationally ranked children’s hospital in the state of Indiana.

Our unique partnership with IUSM provides students access to the latest in medical research, technology and innovative treatments. Indiana University School of Medicine is the second largest medical school in the country and is a global leader in medical education and research, with more than $240 million in research grants and contracts. Our nationally recognized partnership and programs allow us to work in union with IUSM to provide those in the medical profession with the highest level of education and training.

Additionally, our strong partnership with IUSM and our clinical experts create the perfect environment to conduct research on the entire continuum—truly from the bench to the bedside. The pediatric clinical research center and advanced technologies allow researchers to identify how genetic and environmental factors contribute to pediatric disease. We have been pioneers in clinical trials and instrumental in federal approval processes. Some of our clinical trials focus on cancer phase 1, pediatric epilepsy and pediatric cochlear implantation.
