Hope in Healing

It is our hope, that we support you on your path to healing.

Hope in Healing is a pediatric bereavement program that provides compassionate, individualized grief support to families who have lost a child at Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health. We believe every family who experiences a loss should receive the support they need. With this in mind, IU Health and the Riley Children’s Foundation financially support Hope in Healing, allowing our team to offer our services to families, free of charge.

The program provides individualized, family-centered services for parents, children and family members, including: phone counseling, mailings, educational materials, newsletters, individual and family counseling, support groups and supportive services for siblings.

Services are also available for children so they can explore and process their feelings. We help children express their feelings through creative, healing and developmentally appropriate activities in a child-centered environment.

Will counseling really help me with my grief?

Each person travels through their own unique journey of grief. The needs of each family are unique and it is our hope we will be able to support and accompany you on your path to healing.

What is the difference between individual and group counseling?

In individual counseling, a bereaved person and counselor meet privately to discuss the individual grief experience. In group counseling or support groups, multiple bereaved people gather to provide support for each other. Usually there is a shared experience around the type of loss.

How old does a child need to be to receive grief support services?

Even young children can experience the effects of grief. We use play and art therapy approaches to work with young children in our child-friendly environment. If you have questions or concerns about how your child is grieving, please contact us.

Yes, any person experiencing grief and loss is welcome to receive services through our program.
