Patient Rooms

Chairbeds

Chairbeds are at bedside on most units. One parent, close family member or guardian is welcome to stay in a child's room overnight. Blankets and pillows are available. If you stay overnight with your child, you must wear your Riley Children's Hospital at Indiana University Health Family Pass. Parents cannot stay at bedside in Intensive Care Units. If your child is on an Intensive Care Unit, there are limited overnight accommodations in the ICU Parent Lounge areas.

Patient Phones

Patient phones are provided at bedside on most units. They will not receive incoming calls between 9 pm and 7 am. Intensive Care Units have phones available in ICU Parent Lounge areas. A telecommunications device (TTY/TDD) for the hearing impaired is also available for bedside use. Ask your child's nurse to arrange for this service. If an amplified phone is needed, please ask your child's nurse to order one.

Televisions

TVs are provided in each patient room free of charge. VCRs and telecaption decoders for the hearing impaired are also available. Ask your child's nurse or a child life specialist about reserving a VCR or decoder. Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health has its own television programming on Channel 5-JWRTV. Check with the child life specialist on your child's unit for the Channel 5 schedule, or look for it posted on parent information boards.
