Indiana’s Only Verified Level I Pediatric Trauma Center
Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health offers the highest level of care for children with traumatic injuries. The trauma center has the experience, knowledge, technology and training to treat the most severely injured young patients anytime that care is needed. Of the thousands of children treated in the Riley Emergency Department each year for every type of illness and injury, about 1,000 receive trauma care.
Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health is one of only 27 children’s hospitals in the country to be verified as Level 1 trauma center by the American College of Surgeons (ACS).
The commitment to comprehensive trauma care extends throughout the entire hospital with departments equipped to provide care to children with traumatic injuries. The most experienced trauma surgeons, as well as specialists in emergency, ICU and anesthesia, are available in the hospital at all times. Patients benefit from access to the most highly qualified experts without delay. Specialists from every field of pediatric medicine and surgery are on call.

The pediatric trauma center meets or exceeds the rigorous standards set by the ACS. An on-site review every three years verifies our program’s quality. Participation in this elite group of trauma programs keeps our team on the cutting edge of trauma care practices and helps us meet the unique needs of children with traumatic injuries.
