The Riley Hospital for Children Cystic Fibrosis Center at Indiana University Health has been serving families in Indiana and midwest states for over 30 years. Riley Cystic Fibrosis Center at IU Health is the only center accredited by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in the state of Indiana.
Riley Cystic Fibrosis Center at IU Health works closely with the clinics at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in South Bend, Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne, Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, and the Adult Cystic Fibrosis Center at Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis.
Each person with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is seen by a primary CF physician at every visit. Appointments at Riley Cystic Fibrosis Center at IU Health are scheduled every two to three months; more frequently as needed.
Things to expect at each visit are:
- pulmonary function testing (for children 5 and over) and review of airway clearance with a respiratory therapist
- review of medications and education sessions with nurses who specialize in CF
- nutritional evaluation and assessments by the dietitian as needed
- access to a social worker who specializes in care of the family with CF.
Once a year we will perform a comprehensive evaluation which will include additional testing to monitor vitamin levels, liver function testing, and overall health.
After each visit, you will receive a written summary of our findings and recommendations through the mail.
We place a very strong emphasis on infection control at Riley Cystic Fibrosis Center at IU Health. All of our team members will put on a cover gown and gloves upon entering your examination room.
Upon leaving the room the team member will remove their gown and gloves and clean their hands with alcohol based hand sanitizers that are provided inside the examination rooms and outside of the examination rooms. All patient care rooms are sanitized between each patient.
To further control infection, our clinic is well stocked with hand sanitizers and tissues for discarding of secretions. We also have a spacious waiting room to allow ample distance between patients.
We would like all of your visits to our clinic to be efficient and rewarding, and would recommend you bring a few activities for yourself/child such as magazines, books, or a small toy. We do not have shared books or toys in or clinic area due to infection control concerns.
