Good nutritional status is strongly associated with good respiratory status. Our goal for all of our patients is that everyone be well nourished and at an appropriate weight for their height. Eating a high calorie diet; routinely taking vitamins/minerals and pancreatic enzyme replacement or "enzymes"; drinking nutrition supplements; and supplementing with tube feedings are all ways to achieve and maintain a well nourished state.
A variety of handouts are included in the nutrition section of the Riley Hospital for Children Cystic Fibrosis Center at Indiana University Health Website to help you learn more about nutrition and CF, and to provide ideas for you to optimize nutritional status. If you have specific questions about your child’s nutrition needs, please contact Karen Maguiness at the Riley Cystic Fibrosis Center at IU Health.
